Y2 was founded by Lucas, Susie, Muskan, Samantha and Diane in early 2015 when all but Lucas were in high school. We observed that despite the many entrepreneurial resources available to post-secondary students and adults, not as much was available to teens and pre-teens.
To address this gap, we ran a conference specifically for high-school students that taught content similar to what incubators were teaching their startup founders. We received warm support from Seneca College’s HELIX incubator, who became our founding partner and venue sponsor, and from the community, as more than 30 business owners and professionals from around Toronto and York Region volunteered as coaches, mentors, speakers, and judges.
Today, we partner with school boards and schools to design and teach in-person and online programs, including our Problem-Based Learning (PBL) program, ICE Challenges, and customized PBL workshops. We also train teachers on how to run their own design thinking workshops in their schools. And once a year, we run the annual conference.
